Shawn has been taking some beautiful photos of our latest barn project. A Nor’Easter had crumpled the roof, and then two years of arguing with the insurance company took its toll. When we arrived, the exterior walls were still standing, but the interior was a jumble of pick-up sticks.
First, Ed, Arron and Shawn worked on a design that will closely reproduce the original, with an option for one fewer bent. Then we dismantled the barn. Currently, Ed is busy in the shop, cutting the new frame. And Shawn and his crew are repairing the sill and undercarriage of the cape that had been attached to this barn. Following are the photos from the beginning, with notes about our process, and special little details.
- First Day
- Uneven East Eave
- Rear Gable
- Leaky Roof
- Facing down the drive.
- Stripped Eave
- Naked Frame
- Tied Down
- Tie Beam and Braces
- Lofty framing
- Stable Gable
